A.J. is an associate designer at Travis Van Liere Studio. With a background in research, his range of experiences and various mentors have shaped his view that designs, at any scale, are not in isolation from their environments or circumstances. A.J. studied Sustainable Urban Dynamics at Arizona State University, where he was a research assistant for an Urban Sustainability Research Coordination Network funded by the National Science Foundation. He also took part in wetland ecosystem ecology research at Tres Rios, a water treatment wetland in Phoenix. After receiving his master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Minnesota, A.J. was a Research Fellow for the Design Duluth Collaborative. He also assisted a local artist with experimental public art installations. As a designer he has worked on residential, healthcare, educational, religious, and government projects, and has taken part in the Landscape Architecture Foundation’s Landscape Performance Series Case Study Investigation. He is a SITES Accredited Professional.
