TVLS worked with PKA Architecture to create a new modern residence located on Robinson’s Bay on the eastern shoreline of Lake Minnetonka in Woodland, MN. The site boasts panoramic views of the lake, patches of mixed hardwood forest, and a naturally restored shoreline. The landscape and site strategy reinforced the overall site identity, bringing the experience of living on the lake into the house.

The bold architectural direction of the lakeside home combined with modern site-sensitive detailing emerges as the overall site identity for the design. The house was positioned at the brow of the hill allowing for multilevel living and exposure to the lake. This strategic siting maximizes views and creates a series of terraced spaces around the perimeter of the home allowing the architecture and landscape to blend. The site design includes a sensuous grass lawn which becomes the surface for the home to emerge from. A grass plinth grounds the house to the site and allows for complete access and circulation around the perimeter of the home. Over 400 lineal feet of shoreline were restored with native grass plantings that
